let my children leave the nest

stop nagging for a holiday
no wasting paper but save a tree
and give my precious time for free

My (now) husband and I were desperate to get married and wanted to do it on a lovely romantic beach, just the two of us. So in order to save money we paid a peppercorn rent to his mum and lived with her and her other 3 children for 18 months, sleeping on her living room floor as there were no spare bedrooms. It was a stressful 18 months as we had very little private space or time. Eventually things got so annoying that she and I had a momentous argument. She ended it by saying that although she disliked my attitude she was happy I was marrying her son because I obviously loved him a lot to put up with the situation! We stuck it out and eventually had saved enough money to go elope. On 29th December 2008 we finally flew off to the Bahamas on our own for our romantic wedding. It was absolutely amazing and without a doubt was worth the sacrifice! Now thankfully we live in our own house and the earlier stress we went through has made us realise how lucky we are now
.

Michael Prendergast In the Name of Love has:
I have been with my partner, now fiancee, for about 2 years now but from the moment I laid eyes on her I knew she was something special. In December 2007 I was walking our dog along Southport beach. I was thinking about how I could ask Lisa, my partner, to marry me. Along the walk I looked down and saw a small cockel shell. It was perfectly formed, it had amazing markings, closed perfectly and was about the size of a ring box. It was perfect. I took the ring home and cleaned it up, then I placed inside a velvet holder for ring.
In January we booked to go away to the Dominican Republic with friends in the coming September, this was going to be the time I asked Lisa.
I went to a small Jewellers and took a look at the rings they had but in the end decided I wanted something unique so had a diamond ring made just for her.
September came quite fast and before we knew it we where on the plane, on our way to the sunny island of Dominican.
Once we had settled in Lisa, our two friends Nikki and Hayley and myself all went scuba diving, we had decided to do our advanced PADI certificate whilst we where out in Dominican as it was cheaper than the UK. We dived down to 30-35 meters where we saw all sorts of gorgeous fish and some ship wrecks which where equally as impressive. It was whilst on one of these dives, at 30 meters below sea level, I produced my cockel shell from my pocket. I placed it onto the sea bed when Lisa wasn’t looking, I then got her attention so she came over and was next to me. The sea was crystal clear, the sun was shinning down through the water. I reached down and picked up the shell which was tightly sealed (with a little help of some glue), I gave the shell to Lisa to look at as the shell its self was worth a second glance. Lisa took the shell and following a short look gave it back to me, I took it but as I did reached down my leg and took out my knife. I put the sharpe blade inbetwee
n the shells seal just enough to break it, then (on my knee) opened the shell infront of her with the diamond ring sitting inside. Lisa could not believe it (I had a professional instructer at hand incase she started to breath heavy or any other problems had arisen). I then produced my divers slate which had on it ” WILL YOU MARRY ME?” , Lisa wrote on it “YES”. I placed the ring on her finger and we swam away hand in hand. It was perfect.

Lisa still has the cockel shell and the divers slate. We also have the underwater proposal on video, this comes in handy when our friends think we are talking the mick.

In the name of love – I am prepared to enter this competition to win a weekend in Lowestoft! Now you have to appreciate that it’s not that I’ve got anything against Lowestoft in fact I’m quite fond of it but it does have a model shop called Hannants.

My husband is a keen modeller so any time we’re in the vicinity he finds himself drawn towards Hannants and his pockets magically empty.

So in the name of love if we’re lucky enough to win I’d be happy for my hubby to visit Hannants with the spending money!

My girlfriend from Kirkcaldy was having a night out in Edinburgh with some of her friends and wanted me to join them. As I’m from the Scottish Borders being 25miles away on a snowy night I declined.
However, I jumped in my car and drove to the city. When I got there i texted her to find out which club she was in, which friends ended up going out with her and also to tell her how much i wished i was with her as we live so far apart. She told me which club so i started walking. I saw her standing outside with her back to me so I phoned her. We spoke for a while before i decided to cross the road, she sent a kiss down the phone and asked for a kiss back…i went silent as i was still crossing the road. She asked if I was upset because of not making it out in Edinburgh, I said yes. She said don’t worry about it now give me a kiss so I ran up behind her and kissed her on the lips!
At first she didn’t realise who it was and looked like she had a bit of a shock then seeing it was me put the biggest smile on her face that I’ll never forget.

in the name of love, i have entered this competition, and embarrassd myself so that i can provide my loved one with a trip of a life time. my loved one does not get many oppourtunities to get away, as he is struggling with a blind dog, and 3 devilish children. i do all that i can to help him, but with all the responsibilities that he burdens it is hard to help. i belive that such a weekend would be of great benefit to him, and provide him with an insight of what it is like to live his life, which in turn i believe will have an enormous effect on his children and his dog.

What have I done for my Laura? Well, I wanted to prove myself to her, so she would know that I’m seriously dedicated to her for life. We are not in a position finacially to get married or even live together, though we wish we were, so I had to be less conventional and more imaginitive. What I did was think up lots of ideas, and then rather than pick one, I did them all! I told my girlfriend Laura that we were going to a restaurant near her. She lived in Surrey and I live in North London so it was hard finding somewhere romantic in an unfamiliar area, but I spent hourse reading reviews, looking on websites and calling up managers. Eventually I found one called the Four Seasons. It was small, in a very old building, with low old oak beams, a warm atmosphere, great food, and very good staff. It was perfect. I had a week before I saw my girlfriend and I spent every day working up to the big dinner. To avoid turning this into a novel, I’ll break down what I did for her. I
wrote her a six page long letter, about my love for her and everything she means to me. I included in it a paragraph in Japanese that I got my tutor to help me with. I had a T shirt made with a photo of her on it and the words “I love you Laura and only you!”, and I went with a friend around all the tourist areas of London having my photograph taken with as many people as possible (friends and strangers)! I even got my mum to pose! Then I put all the photos into an album with a Cherry Blossom design on the cover (my pet name for her). Using a photo of the two of us holding each other, I created a design with the picture surrounded by hearts and a written confession of my love and devotion to her. I then had it put in a news paper in the anouncement section for £150, that way at least 200,000 readers would see my love for her (plus website viewers). It went into 4 papers so I cut the pages out of each one and mounted them on coloured card, rolled them up and put them into a p
oster tube. I created a romantic website with photos of us and a long message saying how I feel so that anyone could read it. I bought a single red rose and put that into a tube. And I prepared a CD with “our” song on it. The big day came and I met her at her house with flowers, I was wearing my best suit and she looked stunning. We got in the car and I drove her to the restaurant. She’d never been before but liked it right away. We sat down at our specially prepared table with extra candles, and talked as we looked over the menu. After ordering and getting drinks, I gave her the letter and the rose. I could see the letter was having a good effect by her facial expressions. Then I gave her the photo album and she was completely shocked that I’d done something like that (by nature I’m shy). She found it funny that I did something so mad but loved it a lot. After that surprise, I gave her the posters/newspaper ads, and explained what I’d done. (Not the cost thought obviously!)
She was blown away by the idea of me confessing my love for her to hundreds of thousands of people. By this point things were getting very emotional, but then dinner came and “our” song came on. At first she looked confused but then whispered, “Oh my God!”. The waiter left and but still during the song, she burst into tears of happiness and we got up from our seats and held each other tightly. I had achieved everything I had hoped for and she knew my love for her was real and that every word of love was true!
When we got back to her house and was getting ready for bed, she saw the other thing that I had done for her. Earlier in the week I had the words “Laura, you are my life, I’ll love you forever” tattooed on my shoulder blade. I hadn’t told her about it before becuase it was such a big committment, I didn’t want it to affect the romance of everything else I’d done. I wanted that to prove my love and the tattoo to be extra. She loved everything and still kisses the tattoo when she sees it.

We are still together 2 years on and more in love than ever before! In fact, I’m going to drive through the snow to see her tomorrow so I should stop writing this and get some sleep! We have lots of romantic memories, one involving InterPetal petals, and soon I will be buying another 2 pints worth for our next time away! If we are lucky enough to win the competition, I can email you the photo of the tattoo and newspaper ad so you know things like this really do happen! If not, then I hope you enjoyed our true tale of love!

Tristan

“My wife and I have been together 14 years. Each year I try and come up with different things as to not do the same ol’ same ol’. …[This year] we will go to a bed and breakfast hotel at the Arcadian Inn. …It is the royal master suite and is decorated very romantic and has a fireplace, with the LCD TV/radio DVD/CD player, and a bathtub for two with jets. I will have already prepped the room with some silk red and white rose pedals in the room and on the bed, and a bottle of wine that my wife and I specifically made during Christmas. I am using a company which will actually go and pick up any specific dinner at the restaurant of my choosing and bring it to us. So we can eat by candle light in our room. In the meantime I have got on the computer and downloaded 11 romantic love songs and burned on to a CD to give to her and put on to play during our supper. Online I have pre-ordered a pair of white cotton thong panties with red embroidery on it and written on it,
“Aaron’s girl”. I also have placed an ad in the Edmond Sun newspaper that will be in the announcement section that will read, “Happy Valentine’s Day Christine! My one and only, always and forever! I Love you! Your Husband Aaron.” Which I will just so happen to locate when we have just finished our meal. Then we will fill up the Jacuzzi tub and take a bath together and I will wash her hair for her. Which all should lead to a fantastic night with the one that I love so dearly. The following morning the bed and breakfast will bring us breakfast by candle light into the room to complete our stay. I have already called her boss (without her knowing) so we could both have that following Monday off work so we will have time to ride the train back home and complete our wonderful weekend.”

A thousand noble thoughts invade my soul as I think what I would do for love–climbing mountains, crossing oceans and walking through fire, but is that what you want my love? What I would do for love is listen to how your day went, do the dishes, make the bed, clean the toilets, pick up my clothes off the floor, prepare a meal, vacuum the floor and load the dishwasher. And when we slip into bed at night, I would rub your feet and then cradle your head on my shoulder and just cuddle. That’s what I would do for love.

Oh yes, I also booked a weekend away to go see the Foo Fighter because he’s madly in Love with Dave Grohl and it made him so ecstatically happy… there was no going back after that really…

moved North to Scotland, made her mine,
left my house, friends and career,

a life together, no regret,

Changed my world,brought to life,
longed to make this girl my wife,
popped the question in March O’Seven,
That July she passed on to Heaven,
I will always remember my Angel above,
For life seemed complete when we shared our love

The Valentines Day 2009 competition winner is…

Well, well, well. The time has arrived. A little bit on the late side I will admit, but hey… you can’t rush love can you!!!
The entries we got were all briliant, infact choosing a winner was very tough for us this year… in fact in the end we had to get everyone together after work for a few pints in the local to put it to a vote….
If I remember rightly Zeus had a few too many as usual and him and Eros got into a drunken fight… But hey that has nothing to do with naming our winner…. So here goes our 2009 Valentines Day competition winner is Jeff Harrison-Turner. He has won a weekend for two in the lovely seaside town of Lowestoft with £500′s worth of spending money to boot!

His winning entry went like this :-

In the Name of Love I have…

Spent a whole month writing romantic poetry then tracked down a publisher and paid an obscene amount of money to have it published then filled the lounge with flowers with the book sitting in the middle of the room. Then I told her I loved her (but she’d guessed that I think)

Dear Jeff, Not sure why we picked you, I think it’s because of the cringe factor and the fact we would all love to read your book of poems one day. Anyway, well done… lets hope the £500 cash prize goes some way towards your next book. Can we suggest a romantic novel based on your trip to Lovestoft :)
